Projects  » THE DIGNITY OF LABOUR

A series of photographs of some of Britain's least glamorous jobs, including 'Fluffers', who clean the rails of the London Underground, a family Embalming business and - probably the worst of the lot - 'Fat-Shovellers' and 'Shit-Shovellers', who clear congealed fat from the drains beneath busy restaurants and excrement from sewers.

The work was made as part of a group project, Image'90s, a portrait of Britain in the early 1990s, shown at the South Bank, London, in 1992.
