Quite by chance I found myself in Berlin on November 9th 1989, the night the Wall fell.

Over the following months most of the former Eastern bloc countries toppled, one-by-one. Traveling on to Bulgaria, I met a group of students in Sofia plotting the overthrow of their Government, before it politely stepped aside without violence.

It was a similar story in Poland, my first two visits, and where my love affair for the place began.
